Well, this evening while looking around fargo for a USB to MIDI i/o (that didnt involve me buying MAGIX software), i came across a nifty item on CLEARANCE...
Im a sucker for clearance...anyways, what i stumbled across in the Radio shack out by Cash wise is a pair of 'base station' style FRS radio boxes. AC adapter and all! Cheap!
Well, i didn't find my usb to midi, but i did walk out of there with the last 2 boxes. It solves my problem of trying to figguer out the best way to connect the upstairs and downstairs of my parents house. Seems to work pretty good there.
In addition, their floor-to-floor intercom system is accessable threw my own portable walkie talkie FRS radios (which are about twice as powerfull as there home base kin). So as it stands right now, I can sit on my couch and talk to geoff on MSN and over the radio, while he sits in his room at my parents house (we just did).
Preaaaaty cool.
Ok, so i struck out on getting a wifi home-to-home network up (antenna issues and $$$... i needed a 15dbi antenna on both linksys's + the hacked firmware) but i did manage to get everyone connected with radios. Wifi networking is still a reality, i just need to hunker down and make it work.
Still, it was pretty exciting to get threw that first time.
Add to inventory of "Stupid crap i own (but is damm handy)":
2 Radio Shack Homebase Style FRS Radios
2 Cobra FRS Walkie Talkie style FRS Radios*
* I bought these after being awake for like 24 hours straight, and being alone in walmart, with my credit card. Bad combination. I remember thinking, "wow, ive allways wanted those. You know, just incase i need to so some kind of Spec Op. Infrastructure man! You cant live with out em..."
Dont ask...
